Serving Our Local Community

Building a community is central to our culture. Over the years, our philanthropic mission has grown steadily in scope and impact. We show that we are Driven to Serve™ by giving back with financial support, the dedication of our time, and by sharing our team’s unique skills.

SCP believes in being a good neighbor, whether it’s by providing jobs or supporting programs that enhance the education and well-being of children. It is important that we give back to the communities that we call home.

Each year the SCP team participates in food drives, toy drives, and school supply drives that support local children. As part of the Miniat Family of Companies, we’ve supported Misericordia Heart of Mercy for close to 50 years, and are long-time supporters of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation and the Special Olympics.

For several decades we have also worked closely with the following organizations that hold significant meaning to the Miniat family and South Chicago Packing:

COMMUNITYBytheHand

By the Hand is a Chicago-based, after-school program that emphasizes academic excellence while nurturing the whole child -mind, body, and soul. By the Hand services Chicago’s most dangerous and under-resourced neighborhoods

COMMUNITYBigShouldersFund

Big Shoulders Fund provides support to inner-city schools that provide a quality, values-based education for Chicago’s children. 100 percent of funds raised go toward programs that benefit Big Shoulders Fund schools and the students they serve.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation is leading the fight against type 1 diabetes by funding research, advocating for policies that accelerate access to new therapies, and providing a support network for millions of young people around the world.

Misericordia Heart of Mercy supports children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Misericordia currently serves more than 600 children and adults residentially, from diverse racial, religious and socio-economic backgrounds.
